Paper Pumpkin Alternate Project Tutorial – APPT Blog Hop
Today I’m excited to share a special handmade gift set featuring a pop-up Z-fold card and a coordinating gift card holder box, created with repurposed pieces from the Stampin’ Up! Paper Pumpkin “Wrapped in Cheer” Kit.

This November kit was packed with beautifully designed gift boxes that are the perfect size for a gift card—ideal for adding that extra-special handmade touch during the holidays. As always, I love finding new ways to breathe fresh life into the Paper Pumpkin kits, and this project is no exception.
About the Project
For the card, I designed a portrait-style Z-fold with a hidden pop-up surprise inside. It’s a fun fold that stands up beautifully for display, and it’s much easier to create than it looks—making it a great option for newer card makers, too.

I repurposed the large “JOY” from the front of one of the kit boxes by die cutting it out, then using that same piece as the focal point on my card. I also incorporated several of the printed die cuts from the kit to tie the whole design together.
To complement the Paper Pumpkin elements, I added background layers using the Traditions of Christmas Designer Series Paper, which pairs wonderfully with the colors and artwork from Wrapped in Cheer. For added versatility, this project also uses the Abundant Joy Dies, a coordinating Paper Pumpkin add-on that matches this kit as well as the October and December kits. It’s a fantastic accessory if you love extending your Paper Pumpkin crafting even further.
Then, to fill the opening where I removed the original “JOY,” I added a coordinating die-cut from the Abundant Joy set to create a polished, finished look. The little Christmas greenery elements complete the design and create a cohesive pairing with the card.
This gift box is not only adorable—it’s also functional, sturdy, and sized perfectly for gift cards. It makes gifting both quick and meaningful, especially when paired with the pop-up Z-fold card.
