A Fall WOW Card That Stops Them in Their Tracks 🍂
Can we talk about this card for a minute? Because I’m a little bit obsessed. I took the September Paper Pumpkin kit, Aspens of Gratitude, and turned it into an angled tri-fold slimline card that makes people go “Wait… YOU made that?!” (Yes. Yes, I did. And you can too!)

First of all, the shape alone is a showstopper. Each panel steps up at an angle, so when it stands open, it looks like a golden mountainside of aspen trees. Honestly, this is the kind of card that ends up on the mantel for weeks instead of tucked in a drawer.
The Secret Is in the Card Fronts and Envelopes
Here’s where the magic happens. The Aspens of Gratitude kit comes with the most gorgeous hand-painted aspen print on both the card fronts and the envelopes. So instead of using them the “normal” way, I trimmed them to create the treetops on every panel.
As a result, when the card is closed, all those angled layers stack up into one big, beautiful golden forest. Then, when you open it, the inside panels reveal crisp white sections with the kit’s die cut birch trunks, which look like they’re growing right up into the painted treetops. It’s like a little fall walk in card form, minus the bugs and the hay fever!
Colors That Taste Like Pumpkin Spice
Meanwhile, let’s give a round of applause to this color palette. The kit is full of rich golds, pumpkins, and warm rusts that basically scream crisp October afternoon. To tie it all together, I used Golden Glow cardstock for the base and for the little strips that separate the treetops from the trunks.
In addition, I sprinkled in a few of the kit’s self-adhesive gems for a touch of sparkle among the branches. Finally, the bold black and white “XOXO” and “sending hugs” sentiments from the Greetings For All Mix & Match Ephemera Pack pop right off those soft watercolor trees. Simple, striking, and zero fancy skills required.
When to Send This Beauty
Now for the best part: who gets one? Thanks to its cozy fall feel, this card is perfect for Thanksgiving, thinking-of-you notes, fall birthdays, and thank-yous for teachers, neighbors, or that friend who always shows up with soup when you’re sick. Plus, the “sending hugs” sentiment makes it a sweet choice for sympathy, get well, or encouragement too. Simply swap the greeting and it works for almost anything. Basically, if someone in your life deserves a hug through the mail (and let’s face it, everyone does), this card has their name on it.
Easier Than It Looks, I Promise!
If you’re new to card making, don’t let all those angles scare you off. The fold is really just two score lines and one diagonal cut, and the kit does most of the heavy lifting with pre-printed art and precut pieces. In other words, you get maximum WOW with minimum stress. That’s my favorite kind of crafting!
