About This Card
Okay friends, this one is a bit of a showstopper, and I am not even a little bit sorry about it. This Double Accordion Gatefold Card came together when I had leftover die cuts from my Hooray for Birthdays Paper Pumpkin Kit staring at me from my craft table, practically begging to be used.

So instead of letting those pretty pieces collect dust, I combined the die cuts with cut-up pieces of the card base pattern to create a background that unfolds into something really special. Because let’s be honest, paper crafters never met a scrap pile we didn’t want to repurpose into something gorgeous.
Perfect Occasions for This Fold
Here’s the fun part: this fold isn’t just eye candy, it’s genuinely functional for so many occasions. The gatefold opens to reveal layers of dimension and surprise, which makes it perfect for birthdays, of course, but also anniversaries, thank you cards, or really any moment when a regular old card just won’t cut it.
Since the design is rooted in the Hooray for Birthdays kit, it leans celebratory, but with a quick swap of sentiment and color palette, this fold works beautifully for graduations, weddings, or even a “just because I’m thinking of you” note. Once you master the fold, the possibilities really do open right up alongside the card.
Why I Love This Technique
What I love most about this project is that it takes two things I adore, fun folds and foiling, and mashes them together into one card that feels equal parts elegant and playful.
It’s proof that repurposing supplies you already have doesn’t mean settling for less; sometimes it means creating your best work yet. And honestly, there’s something so satisfying about watching a flat sheet of cardstock transform into layers and dimension right before your eyes. If you’ve never tried a fun fold before, this is a fantastic one to add to your someday list.
Confessions of a Foil Addict
I need to come clean about something: I am officially, unapologetically addicted to Hot Foiling. There, I said it. Once you add that shimmer to a project, there’s no going back, and this card is proof.
I used the Botanical Glow dies with silver foil to create that dreamy, glowing background, and then foiled the sentiment using the Sweetly Sentimental dies for a finishing touch that makes the whole card feel extra special.
