How to Use Designer Paper Scraps with the Starburst Card Technique
Featuring the Stampin’ Up! Twisted in Time Bundle & Thoughtful Journey DSP
Are you a paper hoarder like me? If you’ve been holding onto those gorgeous scraps of designer series paper because they’re “too pretty to toss,” this one’s for you!
I created this card for my Stamp It Demonstrator Group’s Father’s Day Blog Hop. Be sure to take the tour below and check out all of the amazing masculine projects.

One of the most requested things I get asked is: “Tami, what can I do with all my leftover paper scraps?” And let me tell you, this starburst (or sunburst) card technique is not only a perfect solution—it’s also fun, fast, and fabulously eye-catching.

What’s in This Card Tutorial?
In this free video class, I’ll walk you through how to create a starburst card background using scrap paper. I’ll share tips for arranging the pieces at different angles and sizes to give your card extra dimension and movement. Whether you’re new to card making or just looking to use up your stash, this technique is a must-try.
And yes—the step-by-step instructions are included below the video so you can follow along at your own pace.

Featured Supplies:
I used a few key Stampin’ Up! products to bring this card together:
-
Twisted in Time Stamp & Die Bundle – This intricate tree die is stunning. It reminds me of the Tree of Life from Disney’s Animal Kingdom (which might be top of mind since I just got back from the Stampin’ Up! Incentive Trip!).
-
Thoughtful Journey Designer Series Paper – These vibrant, artsy paper scraps are perfect for the sunburst design. You could use any DSP scraps you have on hand for a similar effect.
-
Saying Something Ephemera Pack – I used the pre-cut “for you” sentiment but customized it! I colored it black using Stampin’ Blends to match the card and layered it over a second uncolored die cut for a subtle shadow look.

Ready to Try It?
Grab your Paper Trimer, sort through those pretty paper scraps, and let’s make something beautiful together.
