A handmade card honoring Memorial Day using the Sunburst Technique
Today I’m sharing a special card tutorial that’s close to my heart—and perfect for Memorial Day. It’s a patriotic handmade card featuring bold red and white stripes, a brushed silver accent, and the simple but powerful word: “Thanks.”
As we pause today to honor and remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country, this card is a heartfelt way to express gratitude. Whether you’re sending it to a veteran, a military family, or simply reflecting on the meaning of the day, this card is a beautiful tribute.
About the Card Design
This design is part of my Starburst Background Technique Series, and I love how the red and white striped sunburst adds both movement and symbolism—radiating strength and unity.
The background was created using strips of Designer Series Paper arranged in a starburst pattern, then layered over a Brushed Silver cardstock mat. I also added some die-cut silver stars to tie it all together.
A Touch of Custom Shine
The sentiment on the card comes from the Saying Something Ephemera Pack by Stampin’ Up! The “Thanks” comes pre-cut in white, which looked great—but I wanted something that shimmered just a little more. So I customized it by heat embossing in Silver Metallic, giving it a polished look that really pops against the blue label and metallic stars.
