A Child Is Born – Handmade Religious Christmas Card Tutorial
About the Stamp Set
The Stampin’ Up! A Child is Born Stamp Set captures the beauty and meaning of the Christmas story. Featuring Mary and Joseph holding baby Jesus, this elegant set from the September–December Mini Catalog is perfect for creating heartfelt handmade religious holiday cards.

In today’s tutorial, I’m sharing two designs that honor the reason for the season — both featuring timeless imagery, soft coloring, and gentle textures that bring peace and warmth to your handmade cards.

Card 1: O Holy Night
For the first design, I created an O Holy Night card with a serene and rustic look. I used the Everyday Arches Dies to frame the Holy Family and added a wood grain background from the Country Woods Designer Series Paper.

The arched window adds such beautiful depth — it feels like you’re looking into a quiet moment of the Nativity scene. I love how the natural wood tones and subtle shadows create a calm, reverent feeling for this card.

Arched Fancy Fold
For my second card, I took the design a step further by turning the arch itself into a fancy fold card base. This Arched Fancy Fold Card is one of my favorite styles because it adds instant “wow” while still being easy to mail.

I created the base using the Everyday Arches Dies, the same ones from the first card, showing how versatile these dies are for both classic and interactive card styles.

I’ve also made another Arched Fold Card using the Faithful Keepsakes Stamp Set — you can check out that project and tutorial here:

Coloring the Holy Family
To bring the images to life, I used Stampin’ Blends Markers for a soft, realistic look. The Deep Combo Packs are wonderful for creating neutral skin tones, and I added gentle hints of Petal Pink and Cloud Cover for warmth and light.

If you’re new to coloring with Blends, don’t worry — I’ve included a video tutorial below that walks you through my process, including blending tips and shading tricks to help your images glow beautifully.

Mailing Your Cards
Both of these handmade cards fold flat and fit perfectly inside a standard Medium Stampin’ Up! envelope — no extra postage needed unless you add a lot of dimension.
They’re great for mailing or hand-delivering to family, friends, or church members to share the message of love and light this holiday season.

Beautiful nativity cards!
They’re beautiful! Thank you for sharing your creativity so generously!
My pleasure!
I love Nativity cards and yours is beautiful! I’ve been hesitant to get this stamp set because I didn’t know what to make of the faces with no facial features. After seeing your card and how you colored in and around their faces, I love how complete that makes them look. Thank You Tami!
I’m so glad to have helped you out with that one, Vanessa! Thanks so much for watching.
