I decorated this card with the die cuts and elements from the Stampin’ Up Rustic Christmas Countdown kit. I think this kit is gorgeous.
Simply add a holiday word set to compliment the die cuts. I used the Brightest Glow Stamp Set for this card. 
The designer series paper is from the St Nick Designer Series Paper Collection.
This technique folds to a standard size envelope.

Wow; what a beautiful card! I’ve never tried the special folded cards. I like your suggestion of using copy paper to experiment with the technique first.
It really helps to do that trial run first and saves waste.
