Today’s card, designed by Veronica, goes out to all of the Cancer Warriors in our lives. To the survivors, those battlingĀ and those who were taken in the battle. You are heroes.
Tomorrow I will be participating in the 2014 Boston Get Your Rear In Gear 5K Run/Walk, an event to benefit the Colon Cancer Coalition. On behalf of my friend Debbie Rech-Whitmore, who is cancer warrior and inspiration. I want to carry the torch for her when she can’t be there.
A very brief background for Debbie: In Nov 2011, Debbie was diagnosed with stage 4 metastatic colon cancer. Her prognosis was not very good. But Debbie is a fighter and has surpassed all expectations that the doctors had given her. However, in September 2014, her body is just not able to continue to fight off the cancer, which has spread to many places including her spine and hip, causing excruciating pain and more recently to her cerebellum, which affects her balance. Debbie is our Wonder Woman! But she Is also a realist. She has set up the appointment for the “bridge to hospice”.
I am going to shamelessly ask all of my friends to donate any amount you can in an effort to help with prevention, early detection and treatment for this disease. Cancer has affected so many in our lives. it’s time we made BIG strides in the area.
