Fabulous Sayings Double Dutch Lower Gatefold Card Tutorial
There’s something so timeless and elegant about a white-on-white card with touches of gold, and this Double Dutch Lower Gatefold Card is a perfect example of that classic style.

This design feels fancy without being fussy, making it a wonderful option whether you’re crafting for a heartfelt occasion or simply want to wow someone with something special. Best of all, once you understand the fold, it’s surprisingly easy to recreate.

For this card, I used the Fabulous Sayings Stamp Set, which is the January Product of the Month. The sentiments are beautiful, versatile, and perfect for both sympathy and encouragement cards. To elevate the design, I paired the stamp set with the gold flowers and leaves on vellum from the Beautifully Adorned Ephemera Pack, which adds soft texture and just the right amount of shine without overwhelming the clean design.

Why I Love This Card Design
One of the things I love most about this Double Dutch Lower Gatefold style is how interactive it is. When closed, the card looks elegant and polished. However, once opened, it reveals a layered interior that feels unexpected and extra special. This makes it ideal for milestone moments, sympathy cards, weddings, anniversaries, or anytime you want the recipient to slow down and really take in the message.

In addition, the neutral white and gold color palette makes this card incredibly flexible. You can easily swap out sentiments, embellishments, or even paper textures to customize it for different occasions. Because of that, it’s also a fantastic fold to keep in your technique toolbox and reuse again and again.

Perfect for Many Occasions
Thanks to the sentiment options in the Fabulous Sayings stamp set, this card works beautifully for sympathy, thinking-of-you, encouragement, or even elegant birthday cards. The gold heat embossing adds a sense of warmth and importance, while the vellum ephemera keeps everything soft and refined. As a result, the finished card feels meaningful without being overly formal.

How to make this card
The Double Dutch Lower Gatefold starts with a single card base that’s scored and trimmed to create the signature lower “doors.” From there, the center panel becomes the focal point, while the bottom flaps add both structure and interest. The sentiments are heat-embossed in gold, die cut with layered label dies, and then framed with gold foil for contrast.
To finish the card, the vellum flowers and leaves from the Beautifully Adorned Ephemera Pack are layered behind the sentiment, creating depth without bulk. A belly-band style strip wraps around the card to hold it closed and adds that final polished touch.
