Today's post is a little tribute to a great (and humble man): my step-father, Dick MacKinnon, or Grampa Dick (as we know and love him). Grampa Dick passed away suddenly this weekend. Although it's not stamping related, sharing this therapeutic for me...
It was the phone call you hope you never receive from a loved one's cell phone..."Is this Tami White?...This is the Shrewsbury Police Department..." at 6 pm Sunday evening. Grampa Dick lived alone, he and my Mom are divorced, and still very close. I had been trying to reach him all weekend. I thought this was him finally calling back. I was about to tease him for taking so long. The Detective informed me that Grampa Dick had passed away, and the floor came out from under me. A neighbor had noticed a UPS slip on his door for a couple of days, and his car was home so they got worried and checked on him and found him. It happened fast, he was not in pain. We believe it was his heart...he outgrew it!Archives for February 2012

The third and final installment in my series of Nature Silhouettes Stamp Set #11154 is the wolf baying at the moon. This time my inspiration came from a similar swap card from my friend Debi Pipen. The background is done with sponge daubers #102892, and masked the moon (see similar video tutorials linked on part 1 of this series). Part 2 in my series of Nature Silhouettes Stamp Set #11154 that my friend Shayna and I created, is the lone stag. Another inspiration from my gal Michelle Zindorf. The tree was colored direct to rubber with Stampin' Write markers, than stamped on the image. Then some white gel pen #105021 highlights. The background is done with sponge daubers #102892, and a little masking and some help from the Plant Hope stamp set (#117042 wood, #120540 clear mount). The Nature Silhouettes Stamp Set #11154 is one of those underused greats in the Stampin' Up! Catalog! The Wolf and Deer/Stag silhouettes are great, so many possibilities. My friend Shayna and I have been creating with this set, today's card is the first in our series. The inspiration for it came from the great Michelle Zindorf. Today's video focuses on the Stampin' Up! Distressing Essentials kit #118762, or as I like to call it the "de-stress" kit hehehe. It creates gorgeous vintage effects like this one with it's vintage "flavor" (color) ink spots and stamp. Here's a super fun idea using the Hearts Framelit Die collection #125599. This first project is a picture frame, taking several of the same sized hearts cut in designer paper and folded in half for the "Heart Hot Air Balloon".
