Spotlight on Elements of Style

elements-of-style-cindy-peterson-21Spotlighting is a technique used to draw attention to a certain part of an image, in this case the flowers from the Elements of Style stamp set (118611 Wood, 120045 Clear Mount) were stamped, colored and then punched out with the 1 1/4" Circle punch. They were layered on black circles punched with the 1 3/8" Circle punch to make them pop off the Regal Rose panel of card stock. Created by Cindy Peterson. Cindy used the Groom Specialy paper (116478) for an accent.

New Elements of Style Series

elements-of-style-jane-wikeThis gorgeous card kicks off a series I'm doing, focusing on the Elements of Style stamp set (118611 Wood, 120045 Clear Mount) in the Stampin' Up! Summer mini catalog. Everything I've seen created with this stamp set is just gorgeous. Today's card is another great example of this, created with stampin' write markers, a little tearing and sponging for the "vintage effect". Designed by Jane Wike. Jane used Chocolate Chip, Old olive and Ivory Confetti card stocks, and stamped the swirling image from the set very faintly on the background of the ivory for this effect. It's stunning!

Cruise Portrait fun with MDS

2010-05-cruise-collage-001I'm so excited! I can't wait to make a photo book in MDS (My Digital Studio) out of my Stampin Up Southern Caribbean cruise photos from last week. I hope to work on that this weekend. In the meantime, I made a photo collage in Picasa and imported that into the My Digital Studio program to create this portrait of our memories from the trip. This will be printed as an 8x10 photo and I'll frame it. I have a complete photo gallery of the entire trip here. Seeing these photos reminds me of all of the fun we had, and memories we'll cherish for a lifetime! Thank you Stampin' Up!!!

Saying goodbye to the Occasions Mini – Part 2

tami-waddell-1

Here's a few more fantastic tributes to the amazing products in the Occasions mini catalog. This catalog and most of the items in it end on April 30.

VIDEO TUTORIAL: Shimmery Pastels Technique

p2023179 This is a super stinkin' cool, beautiful technique called Shimmery Pastels. It uses the Beautiful Wings embosslit (118138in the Occasions mini catalog), shimmer paint (see below for ordering info) and Stampin Pastels! Although the photo looks great, it's even more gorgeous in person where the butterflies completely jump off the card. So very, very cool and yet so easy to do. This short video tutorial demonstrates how to create this beautiful card.

Exciting news and a very special Journal

shelli-journalI'm so very excited to share some news!!! I have been asked to be a reporter for Stampin Success magazine!! WOW!! What an honor, I'll be covering the upcoming Southern Caribbean cruise. Saying goodbye to the Occasions Mini – Part 1

lyn-wilcox-1The 2010 Stampin Up Occasions mini catalog has so many fantastic stamp sets, and new products. It boosted the first look at Stampin Up's new Clear Mount stamp system, which I LOVE LOVE LOVE! It is also ending on April 30, and with it many of the cool stamps and products in it will no longer be available. Don't worry, the clear mount stamps and new blocks will be staying around (wshew!!!) but these sets may be gone forever.

On Board Scallop Circle Picture

lyn-wilcox-4 Today's project comes from my downline Lynn Wilcox. She used the On Board Scallop Circle Book (118306) in the Occasions Mini catalog to create this beautiful photo collage ornament. She used designer paper and the circle punch for the edges, and the circle scissors to layer the center around the photo.

The Boston Marathon

Yesterday we watched the Boston Marathon and hand out waters and pretzels (yes, pretzels) to the runners. It's always so inspiring to be at this event. This was the 114th year, over 26,000 people ran the marathon, with over 500,000 spectators! The Boston marathon is second largest "single day" sporting event in the world! 2nd only to the Superbowl. Pretty amazing isn't it? My friend Donna and her husband Jeff came all the way from Utah to run in it. We got together and did the town on Saturday night, she gave me this gorgeous card. It was created with the Flower Folds Big Shot die (115970), jumbo grommet (114348) and the A to Z stamp (115711 from the Occasions mini catalog).

Clear Mount Stamp Storage made easy

dvd-rackI've been stocking up on many of the new clear mount stamps from Stampin Up. I just love their easy storage in a DVD container, and am so impressed with how nicely they stamp. Same great rubber, easy storage. Here's a picture of a DVD rack I picked up at Target, it makes it so much easier to find a stamp set in a hurry as I can see all of the images in the set on the binding of the case. I love that I have 15 stamp sets in this one little space! If you haven't seen the clear mount stamps in action, you can check out my introduction to them here >. The boys and I are off to the Boston Marathon today. We'll be cheering on the runners and handing out water. I love being a part of the marathon. We stand at the 1/2 way mark, and it's a point in the marathon where the runners are tired, slowing up a bit and probably many wanting to quit (13 miles into the 26.2 is a long way)...but they keep going, despite the exhaustion and pain. It's so inspiring! Especially the wheechairs, they are amazing!

Not only does this video demonstrate how to achieve this "aged" look, it demonstrates how to use the Spiral book binding punch and 3-d flowers using the scallop circle punch. Packed full of great tips!
