As we ring in a brand-new year, I’m so excited to share a dazzling project duo that is perfect for celebrating in style! Today’s blog hop features my Pop Up Stretch Card, paired with an elegant coordinating New Year’s treat bag created by my talented friend, Janet Baker. These two projects shine in classic black and gold, making them ideal for parties, gifting, or sending festive New Year wishes to someone special. Both projects are beginner-friendly, yet impressive enough to delight even your most seasoned paper crafting friends.

About the Pop Up Stretch Card

This card is truly a show-stopper! At first glance, it looks like a sleek black and gold New Year card… but when you open it, the inside stretches out to reveal a bold “HAPPY NEW YEAR” pop-up display. It’s the kind of card that sparks joy immediately—and always earns a “How did you make this?!” reaction.

It’s the kind of card that sparks joy immediately—and always earns a “How did you make this?!” reaction.

To create this dramatic look, I used the Modern Christmas Suite and its coordinating designer series paper. The black background scattered with gold stars felt like the perfect festive night sky to welcome the year ahead. Each letter of the sentiment is die-cut from the Party Alphabet Dies using Gold Foil, giving the card that luminous metallic finish that instantly elevates the design.

Because we’re heading into 2026, I also added the year using the Alphabet À La Mode Dies for a polished, coordinated touch. The whole piece folds down to a standard card size, but—because this style of pop-up has extra lift and dimension—I created a custom envelope to accommodate it. I walk you through how to make that envelope step-by-step in the instructions section.

This stretch card is much easier to make than it appears, and once you learn the mechanics, you’ll want to recreate it for birthdays, graduations, anniversaries, and beyond. I’ve included a full video tutorial to guide you through every detail.

No celebration is complete without a little something sweet—so I’m thrilled to share the stunning coordinating treat bag created by my friend, Janet Baker. This clever little pouch is made from Stampin’ Up! Clear Envelopes, proving that sometimes our simplest supplies can produce the most charming results.

The front is decorated with a layered banner tag from the Creative Haven Bundle, stamped in black and gold and set over a beautiful Gold Hoop for added radiance. Inside the bag are a handful of golden Werther’s Originals, which tie in perfectly with our black-and-gold New Year’s theme.

One of my favorite parts of this treat bag is the small charm attached to the front—an adorable piece that reads “Grateful.” It adds the sweetest finishing touch, and I’ve included the supply link for the charm in the instructions area so you can recreate this look exactly. This little treat holder is wonderful for party favors, table settings, teacher gifts, or small thank-you surprises throughout the season.

Just like the card, the treat bag has a bit of dimension, so I designed a second custom envelope/holder to present it in a polished, coordinated way. All measurements and instructions are included in the downloadable tutorial.
