My stamp club theme this month is watercoloring with aqua painters. I enjoy watercoloring, I find it very soothing and stress relieving.
This gorgeous card using the Music Expressions stamp set is one of the club projects. Layering color ans shading your image when watercoloring creates depth. You’ll notice how the cello appears to “pop” right off of this card.
I’ve created this short video snippet to demonstrate how the cello shading was created. Click on the video below to view.
In this video snippet, I used the aqua painters with ink pad refills: chocolate chip and creamy caramel. This same shading technique can be created with either Watercolor Wonder Crayons OR by squeezing the lid of your SU ink pad (while it’s closed) then painting with the pool of ink created in the lid when you open it.
Using the right tools: Ink & paper. The outcome of your watercolored image will vary depending on the ink and paper you use. I stamped the cello image in Staz On permenant ink to eliminate bleeding. The paper is Stampin’ Up’s Watercolor Paper, this is created to be painted on. It’s cold pressed, 100% cotton and resists buckling when wet. Painting with Aqua painters are fabulous, the tip unscrews and the tube conains water. You simply squeeze the tube while painting to control the flow of water. Some watercoloring you’ll want more water, some less. You’ll want to practice with these your first time.
The embossed swirl background on the bravo burgundy panel was created with the Big Shot Texturz plates.
